key performance indicators in obiee 11g



· "KPIs" are a new metadata stands for Key performance Indicators.

· Requires measures for actual and target, thresholds for good, average, bad etc..,

· KPIs typically have both a goal and status that reflects performance relative to the goal.

· KPIs are by default "De normalized".

· When you are creating KPIs you an group as financial KPI or non Financial KPI.

· Note: The below mentioned KPIs are created making use of custom repository - presentation catalog.

· Define two KPIs to be use for store analysis: --> One for KPI to measure sales against target. --> One for KPI to measure profit margin against target.

Hands On:

· Upload custom repository (ABC Retail) and also specify ABC retail catalog name.

· Login to presentation services and then create the following KPIs.

Create First KPI (Sales to sales amount target):

· Click on New --> KPI

· Select sales fact sales subject area.

· In the general properties select actual value as Sales Amount.

· Select target value as sales amount target.

· Click on Next.

· Now click on add on dimensionality screen, click region click add again select store name, quarter and month.

· Click on Next.

· In the states screen define the threshold value as 100, 70.

· Click on Next.

· In the related document you can add existing reports.

· Click on Next.

· In the custom attributes we can created custom columns.

· Note: You may need custom columns to be created when there is a need for additional columns to be display along with the standard KPIs.

· Click on finish and save your KPI in folder (Created by you) and name KPI as "Sale Amount to target Amount".

· Go back to home and open KPI you have created notice green, yellow and red indication. When there is an actual value having green background color. It means that actual has exceeded target limit (>100).

· When the actual value has yellow, it means that it is in between 70 to 100% of the target value. Note that if the value is =70 or =100, then also it will shows yellow color.

· When the actual value has red, it means that it is less than 70% of the target value.

Second KPI (Margin to target):

· Click on New --> KPI -->"Sales fact sales" subject area.

· In the general properties, for the actual value click on "Fx" and enter following formula.




((Revenue-cost)/Revenue)*100




· Select target value as 40. Click on Next.

· Add four dimensional attributes as before.

· Follow as previous.

· Save it as margin to target.



Create the following Non Financial KPIs:

Γ¨ Staff satisfaction KPI

Γ¨ Customer satisfaction KPI

Staff Satisfaction KPI:

· Select New --> KPI --> Store quality subject area.

· In general tab Actual value=staff satisfaction score and Target value=staff satisfaction target.

· Click on Next, Add the four dimensions as previous.

· In status page select s 9o, 70.

· Save the KPI as "Staff Satisfaction KPI".

Create Customer satisfaction KPI:

· Select New --> KPI --> Store Quality Subject Area.

· In general tab Actual value=Customer satisfaction score and Target value=Customer satisfaction target.

· Click on Next, Add the four dimensions as previous.

· In State page select as 90,70.

· Save the KPI as "Customer Satisfaction KPI".

Creating a KPI Watch List:

· Select New --> KPI Watch list.

· From catalog drag and drop KPIs accept default values.

· Save it as "ABC Client KPI Watch list".
